A major issue that I can see about this is manufacturing. If the lenses can not be made locally, then the cost of importing them may become prohibitive. There would also be significant time delays in getting lenses from another country, and modifications/polishing/etc. would be cost and time prohibitive. Cleaning and disinfecting solution would have to be available as well.
